In a startling crackdown, Toronto police have apprehended three women linked to a disturbing series of distraction thefts that preyed on the elderly and vulnerable throughout the city. Authorities allege this trio was part of a well-organized criminal gang.

Between July and early September 2025, the suspects executed numerous thefts, employing cunning distraction tactics to snatch jewellery and valuables from their unsuspecting victims. The arrests come as residents express growing worries over a surge in such crimes, particularly impacting seniors.

Police Operation Pays Off

On September 7, a tactical police operation culminated in the arrest of Florentina Alexandru (44), Mirabela Lacatusu (27), and another woman with the same name, Florentina Alexandru (37). All are residents of Toronto, and their alleged thefts have cost victims thousands in stolen goods.

Serious Charges Ahead!

The women face an array of serious charges, including theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, and multiple counts of possession of stolen property. Additionally, they are implicated in participating in a criminal organization.

A Court Appearance to Remember

The older Alexandru and Lacatusu appeared in court on Monday, while the younger Alexandru had her day in court scheduled for Tuesday.
