A Crime Spree Shakes Vaughan: Two Armed Home Invasions
In a shocking turn of events, three men are now facing charges related to two armed home invasions that rattled a quiet street in Vaughan earlier this month. The incidents occurred on Timber Creek Boulevard, an area now infamous for its recent crime wave.
Nightmare on Timber Creek Boulevard
Investigators from York Regional Police kicked off 'Project Timer' following break-ins on August 31 and September 10. Security camera footage from one of the homes reveals the harrowing moments as the intruders approached in the dead of night.
On August 31, around 2:20 a.m., the footage shows one suspect wielding a handgun, smashing the front window before accessing the home. Terrifying screams from a family, including two young children aged six and nine, can be heard as the invaders forced their way in. Fortunately, no one was physically harmed during this violent encounter.
A Deadly Connection?
Tragically, this invasion occurred just 90 minutes after another home invasion in the same neighborhood, which resulted in the death of 46-year-old father of four, Aleem Farooqi. However, police have stated they are unaware of any connection between the two crimes.
Repeat Offenders?
Fast forward to September 10, where another video captured a suspect attacking a home's glass side panel with an axe around 2:30 a.m. Similar to the first incident, the intruders managed to evade capture, fleeing to the same dark SUV that was involved previously.
During this second invasion, the suspects demanded valuables but left empty-handed. Miraculously, again, there were no injuries reported.
Arrests Made and More Suspects on the Loose
The breakthrough came when police located the stolen SUV on September 16. Officers arrested three suspects after catching them in the act of preparing for another home invasion, with a loaded firearm seized at the scene.
The arrested individuals are Zachary Boyce, 22; Jacoy Montegue, 21; and Jaykell Watson, 22. They face multiple charges, including robbery with a firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm, with Watson also implicated in drug-related offenses.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Alarm
As the investigation unfolds, police believe this trio may be linked to other criminal activities across the Greater Toronto Area. Two additional suspects remain at large, heightening fears among local residents.
Sgt. Ryan Boulay acknowledged the rising trend in such frightening incidents: "These offenders are after something for monetary gain... We hope that the arrest of these individuals brings some relief to the community."
Community Urged to Stay Vigilant
Police continue to seek any information related to these home invasions. Anyone with tips is encouraged to contact authorities anonymously, helping to ensure the safety and security of Vaughan neighborhoods.
