Arrests Made in Markham’s Attempted Murder Case
In a chilling turn of events, York Regional Police have apprehended two men linked to the attempted murder of a woman shot earlier this year in Markham.
The Incident Unfolds
The alarming incident occurred on January 21, around 5:30 PM, when bystanders reported gunfire near Lee Avenue and Noble Street. Responding officers discovered a woman wounded by gunfire. Fortunately, her injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and she was promptly transported to the hospital.
Months of Investigation Lead to Arrests
After extensive investigation efforts, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Markham on August 7, successfully arresting one suspect while simultaneously issuing a Canada-wide warrant for another.
On September 16, the second suspect was located and taken into custody.
The Suspects Revealed
Police have identified the suspects as Chao Chen, 35, from Markham, who faces charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The second suspect, Zhou Ye, 42, from Toronto, is charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and failing to comply with a judicial release order.
Legal Troubles Compounded
At the time of their arrests, Zhou Ye was already under a judicial release order, while Chao Chen had warrants for unrelated offenses from the York Regional Police.
