NEW YORK
It feels like a page torn from music history! Nearly 50 years ago, the iconic Sex Pistols took the stage at the legendary 100 Club Punk Special in London — a night that changed the landscape of punk music forever. Back then, vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock shared the bill with emerging bands like Subway Sect, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Clash, setting the stage for a shift from underground rebellion to mainstream sensation.
Fast forward to 2025, and the surviving members of the Pistols are reuniting for their very first North American tour since 2003, this time featuring Frank Carter as frontman. Carter, known for his roles in Gallows and Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, is here to bring a fresh flavor to the iconic punk ensemble. This announcement took place in the very same venue that kicked off their historic journey, with Cook reflecting, "This is where it all kicked off, really, all the punk."
Tour Details
Kicking off on September 16 at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, Texas — infamously known as the site of a raucous concert in 1978 — this tour promises to create its own legendary moments. Jones recalls the chaos of their first performance in the U.S., dodging "pigs' hooves and bottles" thrown by rowdy cowboys.
The tour is not just about nostalgic performances; fans can expect the band to play their landmark 1977 album, “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,” in its entirety, alongside other electrifying tracks. Scheduled to conclude on October 16 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, the tour will hit major cities across North America, including Washington, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Montreal, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, and more. Additional dates are still to be announced.
Ticket Sales
Ticket pre-sales begin on April 2 and 3, with general sales opening on April 4 at 10 a.m. local time.
Band's Return and Expectations
But why return to the U.S. now? "Why not?" Jones quips, while Carter passionately observes, "I think everybody needs this band right now. I think the world needs this band right now." In today's tumultuous times, the punk ethos offers an escape and an opportunity for catharsis, and the Sex Pistols embody that spirit of rebellion.
Carter led the band for a series of U.K. performances last year, but there was no outreach to former frontman Lydon for this tour. Jones noted, “The last thing he wants to do is have anything to do with us right now,” referring to a previous legal dispute regarding their TV series “Pistol.” Although tensions remain, Matlock adds amicably, “We wish him the best."
Performance and Future
Anticipate an even tighter performance as the band returns to the stage. "We're older, but we play just as well, if not better," Matlock assures fans. Perhaps most excitingly, the possibility of new music isn't off the table. "It’s early days," Jones teased. "Let's see what happens."
Conclusion
Get ready, North America — the Sex Pistols are back to send a shockwave through the music scene once more!
