In a shocking incident that underscores the pervasive dangers of fentanyl, a five-year-old girl in British Columbia is on the road to recovery after suffering an overdose last week.

On March 20, while taking a bath in a home on Nottman Street in Mission, the young girl came into contact with a jar containing fentanyl. The obliviousness to the substance's perilous nature led to a rapid series of distressing events, which included vomiting and breathing difficulties. An alarmed family quickly dialed 911 around 9 p.m.

Authorities confirmed that both the girl's mother and grandmother were present during the incident. According to Cpl. Harrison Mohr of Mission RCMP, "Her condition rapidly deteriorated soon afterwards," prompting immediate emergency intervention.

Upon arrival, paramedics found the little girl unconscious and in desperate need of CPR. They administered multiple doses of naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal drug, before transporting her to the hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, medical professionals report that she is expected to make a full recovery.

Cpl. Mohr noted, "Anyone who suspects they or someone around them has come into contact with fentanyl should seek medical aid immediately, regardless of whether symptoms have set in. Timely administration of naloxone and subsequent medical care can be critical to surviving an overdose."
