As women continue to outlive men, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Vonda Wright is on a mission to transform the aging experience from one of pain to one of joy.

"Although we’re living longer, we’re suffering longer too, and much of the discussion around longevity has focused on men and their experiences," notes Wright.

With two decades of experience as an academic surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Wright has focused her research on musculoskeletal aging. Her goal? To shatter the stereotype that aging must bring inevitable decline.

Together with her research team, she analyzed the health of senior athletes who competed in the National Senior Games, a prestigious event welcoming athletes over 50 years. Wright is determined to reshape the narrative around aging in America.

"In the early 2000s, I declared my ambition: 'I’m going to change the way we age in this country,'" she reflects.

Now the founder of Precision Longevity, Dr. Wright actively shares her insights with patients and recently published "Unbreakable," a guide aimed at empowering women to embrace healthy aging.

Dr. Wright's Daily Habits for Ageless Living

Here's a glimpse into the daily practices that keep Dr. Wright thriving:

1. Protein Powerhouse

Dr. Wright emphasizes the importance of protein, aiming for 130 grams daily to build lean muscle. "Being lean is healthy; I’m not focused on being skinny," she asserts.

2. Stay Active, Stay Young

Walking 45 minutes a day, three to four times a week, and incorporating sprinting twice a week keeps her body in peak condition. Plus, she’s added jump ropes to her routine—a fun twist that promotes bone health.

3. Prioritize Sleep

Bedtime by 9:30 PM and rising at 5:00 AM are non-negotiable for Dr. Wright, as she recognizes the brain-boosting benefits of consistent sleep.

4. Keep Learning

A lifelong learner, Dr. Wright dedicates time to new knowledge, which she finds both enjoyable and essential for mental sharpness.

5. Hormonal Health

After experiencing the profound impacts of perimenopause, she decided to replace her estrogen. "Without it, our brains can wither," she intones, underlining its critical role in cognitive vitality.

6. Social Connections Matter

Dr. Wright advises selecting close-knit support circles. For her, that means daily chats with five female colleagues, fostering a sense of community crucial for longevity.

7. Nourishing the Body

Adopting an anti-inflammatory diet, she consumes plenty of leafy greens and focuses on whole foods and minimal sugar intake. She believes that nutrition directly affects her energy and mental acuity.

8. Continued Exploration

An avid reader, Dr. Wright continually engages with texts on women's health, including "Estrogen Matters" and new publications on menopause. She even ventured into fiction with the sci-fi series "Red Rising" for a bit of escapism.

Dr. Vonda Wright isn’t just advocating for a new approach to aging; she’s living it. Her daily routines illustrate that healthy aging is within reach for women everywhere.
