In a dramatic crackdown on drug trafficking, Alberta law enforcement has dismantled a major cross-border network responsible for smuggling nearly pure cocaine valued at over $15 million. This operation, dubbed Project Cerberus, marks one of the largest drug seizures in Alberta's history.

The Investigation Unveiled a Sinister Operation

Launched over two years ago, Project Cerberus revealed an extensive organized crime group linked to Mexican cartels, actively engaged in trafficking high-purity cocaine from Mexico into Canada. Through a network of sophisticated hidden compartments in vehicles, these criminals were able to distribute drugs across the nation.

Staggering Quantities of Cocaine Revealed

ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams) reported a shocking seizure of 157 kilograms of cocaine, which tested at a staggering 96-98% purity. This enormous haul is not only the largest the agency has ever recorded but also ranks among the largest in the province's history.

Multimillion-Dollar Seizure

Alongside the cocaine, law enforcement seized 15 firearms, nearly $1 million in cash, and a fleet of seven vehicles specially designed for drug smuggling. The drugs were confiscated in two operations: a 61-kg shipment was intercepted in March 2024 in Manitoba, and a separate 96-kg stash was found in Texas, linked to the Canadian operation.

Key Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

In connection with these busts, six individuals have been charged with serious offenses related to organized crime and drug trafficking. Notable among them is Jack Kasjaniuk, a 35-year-old from Edmonton, who pled guilty in the U.S. and is now serving a 135-month sentence.

Additional Arrests from Alberta's Underworld

This past July, authorities charged five more high-ranking members of the crime syndicate from Calgary and Edmonton, collectively facing 31 criminal charges. These arrests signal a larger effort to uproot organized crime across Alberta.
