Fans of the iconic "Star Trek" franchise have been eagerly clamoring for a spin-off of "Star Trek: Picard," particularly one that would feature Jeri Ryan's beloved character, Seven-of-Nine, at the helm of the Enterprise-G. With the third and final season of "Picard" receiving widespread acclaim, the tantalizing concept of "Star Trek: Legacy" captured the imagination of viewers. Unfortunately, hopes for this series began to dim as no development seemed imminent and initial plans fell through.

The shift in momentum became clear when showrunner Terry Matalas chose to focus on his work with the upcoming "Vision Quest" series at Marvel Studios, which effectively shelved the "Legacy" idea. Despite this setback, Ryan has now confirmed that a different series was pitched to her following the conclusion of "Picard."

During an appearance at Spacecon in San Antonio, Texas, where she joined other cast members from "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Star Trek: Picard," Ryan addressed the burning question about her character's future. “There has been talk. And there was an idea that was actually pitched to me after Picard ended, which was not the ‘Legacy’ show that I know the fans are asking for, that I want to do," she revealed. Ryan went on to add, “But it just wasn’t me… it didn’t feel like the right kind of thing… But there has been talk. And if there is one thing I have learned with this franchise is to never say never. You never know.”

This intriguing revelation raises questions about what could be in store for Ryan's character and potentially others in the "Star Trek" universe. Currently, Paramount+ appears to be moving ahead with its plan to produce "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," which has two seasons confirmed and is already in production for its first season. Additionally, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is set to return with at least two more seasons, ensuring that fans will still have ample "Star Trek" content to devour.
