Chaos in Radisson Heights

A shocking episode unfolded in southeast Calgary on Tuesday evening as gunshots rang out in the lively community of Radisson Heights, sending residents into a frenzy.

The Disturbing Details

Authorities received reports of gunfire around 6:55 p.m. in the 2700 block of 12 Avenue S.E. Upon arrival, police discovered a scene riddled with bullets.

According to Calgary Police Inspector Mike Schute, the confrontation involved two vehicles exchanging fire, resulting in chaos as witnesses fled the scene. Some individuals sought refuge in a nearby apartment, while the vehicles sped away.

Injuries and Investigation

The situation escalated rapidly, leading to two individuals being treated for injuries. One victim, initially in life-threatening condition, is now stable after being admitted to the hospital. The second person, connected to the shooting, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Even more alarming, several stray bullets struck nearby homes, emphasizing the reckless nature of the incident.

Police Action and Community Concerns

Four individuals were detained at the scene, but two were later released without charges. Calgary Police Chief Mark Neufeld expressed frustration over the strain on resources, as officers were dispatched to multiple locations due to the complexity of the investigation.

"It was a super complex situation involving several crime scenes, including a burned-out vehicle and a heavy police presence at the hospital," Neufeld explained.

A Targeted Attack?

By Wednesday afternoon, police indicated that the shooting appeared targeted and likely involved organized crime. Staff Sergeant Matthew Gow of the Organized Crime Section voiced grave concerns over the level of violence displayed. The incident occurred in a busy residential area, showcasing a shocking disregard for public safety.
