During an engaging address at the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Fire Services convention held at Sacred Heart Academy in Marystown, Premier John Hogan outlined the details of this much-anticipated support.
Compensation Breakdown: What’s Included?
The government will bestow a one-time honorarium of $500 each to volunteer firefighters and members of ground search and rescue teams who generously offered their time and skills during the crisis. Additionally, local fire departments that deployed volunteers will receive a substantial one-time honorarium of $10,000.
Towns and Organizations Also Benefit
In a bid to streamline the distribution of funds, pertinent towns and local service districts will be allocated $1,000 to help manage accounting costs, while the Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association will receive $5,000 for similar purposes.
Continuing Support for Firefighters
This impactful package builds on previous commitments, including $100,000 designated for wildland coveralls for volunteer fire departments, alongside a special assistance grant of $30,000 to the Town of Small Point, Broad Cove, Blackhead, and Adam’s Cove, increasing total support to the town to $60,000.
