In a shocking incident that has left the community shaken, a cyclist in their 70s was seriously injured after a collision with a vehicle in northeast Calgary on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene at the intersection of 36 Street NE and 20 Avenue NE around 3:20 p.m., where they found the elderly cyclist in urgent need of medical attention.
Rushed to the hospital, the cyclist sustained serious injuries, but fortunately, they are not life-threatening. As local residents breathe a sigh of relief, they are being reminded of the ever-present dangers on the roads.
Authorities have closed 36 Street NE in both directions between 26 Avenue NE and 16 Avenue NE, urging motorists to steer clear of the area as investigations continue.
In addition, commuters faced disruptions as CTrain services between Rundle and Marlborough LRT stations were halted for several hours, only resuming around 6 p.m. This incident serves as a stark reminder to both drivers and cyclists to remain vigilant and prioritize safety on the roads.
