First Moves of the Season
The Edmonton Oilers have officially kicked off their 2025 training camp by making some exciting roster changes.
Young Talents Head Back to Junior Teams
In a strategic move, the Oilers have returned forward Tommy Lafreniere to the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL, alongside fellow forward David Lewandowski, who is heading back to the Saskatoon Blades.
Spotlight on Lafreniere
Lafreniere, chosen in the third round as the 83rd overall pick in this year’s draft, showcased his skills with an impressive 56 points (24 goals, 32 assists) in 68 games last season. During the recent split-squad match in Edmonton, he had a solid showing with a shot on goal and a hit, despite not scoring during his 14:48 minutes of play. At rookie camp, he was more noticeable in Game Two, netting a couple of goals and proving his mettle as the Oilers’ #14 prospect according to The Cult of Hockey.
The Lewandowski Factor
Lewandowski, a promising 6'1'', 177-pound forward from Germany, had a breakout season last year, tallying 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) in 52 games. Selected in the fourth round as the 117th pick, he made his mark during training with strong performances, including a notable assist on Lafreniere’s goal in Game Two of the rookie tournament.
No Surprises Here
Both players still have junior eligibility remaining, and their return should come as no surprise as the Oilers refine their lineup going into the season.
Next Up for the Oilers
The Oilers are gearing up for their next encounter as they head to Winnipeg tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates as training camp progresses!
