A Wild Ride: The Story of a Pink Barbie Jeep
In an extraordinary turn of events, a man from Prince George, B.C., found himself facing a 90-day driving prohibition after being caught behind the wheel of a pink Barbie Jeep during his morning commute.
Caught in the Act
On September 5 at around 9 a.m., an officer patrolling the busy intersection of 15th Avenue and Nicholson Street couldn't believe his eyes. Amid the usual rush of vehicles, a man was driving a toy Jeep that would be more at home in a child’s playroom.
Cpl. Jennifer Cooper from the Prince George RCMP explained, "This was indeed out of the ordinary. It posed risks not only to the driver but to other motorists who weren’t expecting to navigate around a toy car during peak commuting hours."
The Driver's Side of the Story
Kasper Lincoln, the man behind the wheel, shared with Global News that he had borrowed the toy from his roommate's daughter for a quick trip to grab a Slurpee. He defended his actions stating, "It’s not like it was a high-speed chase. I made sure to signal and be cautious crossing the street."
Impairment and Consequences
However, during the traffic stop, the officer suspected Lincoln was impaired. A check revealed his driver’s license was suspended. Lincoln provided two breath samples, both exceeding the legal alcohol limit.
Remarkably, Lincoln insisted he hadn’t consumed any alcohol that morning. He exclaimed, "I didn’t think you could get a DUI in a Barbie truck!" Yet, he learned that the law classifies any powered vehicle on public roads as a motor vehicle, necessitating licensed drivers and insurance.
Lessons Learned and Future Court Date
While the Barbie Jeep wasn’t impounded and was safely returned to its young owner, Lincoln now faces serious repercussions. He is set to appear in court this December, serving as a cautionary tale for anyone underestimating the legalities of operating any vehicle, no matter how cute or how small.
