Dramatic House Fire in Lower Sackville

In a harrowing incident early in the morning on January 11, a house fire in Lower Sackville resulted in a serious emergency response and shocking rescues. Authorities report that around 3:10 a.m., the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, alongside Emergency Health Services (EHS) and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services, rushed to the scene on Riverside Drive following reports of a blaze in a residential home.

Upon arrival, responders found two occupants of the house— a 37-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child—who had managed to escape without injury. However, the situation quickly escalated as a 40-year-old man remained trapped inside the burning structure. A heroic neighbor intervened, successfully rescuing the man, who was thereafter transported to the hospital, where he now remains in critical condition as authorities fear for his life.

In a race against time, firefighters also performed life-saving measures, rescuing three young children trapped in the home, ages 5, 6, and 9. These children were also taken to the hospital via EHS for evaluation.

The fire has sparked an ongoing investigation by multiple agencies, including the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal, the RCMP/HRP Criminal Investigation Division, and Forensic Identification Services.
