A Culinary Journey Begins in Gastown

In the heart of Vancouver, food lovers now have a new reason to celebrate! Casa de Nata, a vibrant café located at 415 Abbott St in Gastown, has officially opened its doors, bringing the rich flavors of Portugal to the city.

From Family Recipes to Market Success

Founded by Stephanie and Jeremiah Benskin, who draw inspiration from Stephanie's Portuguese heritage, Casa de Nata began its adventure in 2020. Initially garnering acclaim at local farmers’ markets for their delicious Pasteis de Nata—traditional Portuguese egg custard tarts—the couple decided to take their passion to the next level.

Savor Traditional Flavors with a Modern Twist

The menu is an homage to Portuguese culture, where food is the heart of gatherings. Think comforting dishes that evoke memories of family kitchens, like Caldo Verde, a delightful potato and sausage soup. Sandwich lovers can indulge in the Bifana, a mouthwatering pork creation, and a unique vegetarian take on the classic Francesinha, traditionally laden with meats.

Tarts to Tempt Every Palate

Of course, the star of the show remains the pastel de nata. While the classic egg custard is a must-try, Casa de Nata takes a contemporary approach by offering exciting flavor variations, including chocolate and raspberry, along with seasonal delights. A vegan version, featuring a coconut soy filling, has already wowed the crowd, proving that gourmet doesn't have to mean traditional.

A Community Hub for Food Lovers

Though Vancouver’s Portuguese community is small, the Benskins are enthusiastic about welcoming everyone to experience their culinary offerings. With every dish made with love, they hope to create a space where friends and families can gather just as they did in Stephanie’s grandmother’s kitchen.

Join the Festivities!

Casa de Nata is not just a café; it’s a celebration of culture, family, and flavor. Coffee, tea, and refreshing Portuguese soft drinks like tropical Sumol complement this wonderful culinary adventure. So gather your friends, and immerse yourself in the delicious flavors of Portugal—Casa de Nata is ready to serve you!
