Shocking Turns in Local Crime Case

The alleged driver behind a dramatic stolen vehicle crash into a TTC bus, injuring nine people, is now facing serious new charges tied to a violent home invasion spree. This shocking crime wave occurred just days before the crash that left two individuals critically injured.

A Night of Terror: The Home Invasion Spree

According to Peel Regional Police, multiple break-ins rattled the neighborhoods of Mississauga and Brampton in the early hours of November 13, 2024. The first incident unfolded around 2:45 a.m., when five masked intruders invaded a home near Dundas Street West and Mississauga Road. The suspects brazenly stole the homeowners' keys and sped away in their vehicle.

An hour later, the criminals struck again in Brampton, breaking into another residence while the victims slept soundly, and making off with several items.

Then at 6 a.m., the invaders forced their way into a home on Major William Sharpe Drive and confronted the occupants with a handgun, demanding car keys before fleeing in the stolen vehicle. This string of terrifying events painted a grim picture of escalating local crime.

Identifying the Suspects: A Lengthy Investigation

After an extensive investigation, police identified Anestan Ganeshamoorthy as a key suspect, charging him on April 17. Ganeshamoorthy wasn’t just any suspect; he was allegedly the driver of a stolen BMW involved in a catastrophic crash with a TTC bus just days later, on November 18.

The Fatal Crash: A Collision That Shook the City

The dramatic crash occurred around 2 a.m. when a black SUV and Ganeshamoorthy's speeding BMW collided with the TTC bus at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Bathurst Street. The force of the impact sent the bus spinning, while the BMW erupted into flames. In a harrowing twist, two occupants of the BMW required rescue from firefighters, with two others rushed to a trauma center in life-threatening condition.

Meanwhile, the driver and four passengers aboard the TTC bus suffered only minor injuries, including a woman who was ejected during the collision.

Legal Consequences: Serious Charges Ahead

Ganeshamoorthy is currently facing charges of robbery, two counts of break-and-enter, and three counts each for wearing a disguise with intent and failing to comply with a release order. Notably, he was already under a judicial release order for previous offenses when he was arrested in connection with the home invasion spree.

Ongoing Investigation: More Charges on the Horizon

Peel Police have yet to identify the other four suspects linked to the home invasions but are suggesting that additional charges may be forthcoming. Investigators are still looking into whether the vehicle involved in the TTC incident was one of the stolen items from the earlier break-ins.

As this dramatic case continues to unfold, the community remains on edge, waiting for justice to be served.
