Video gaming can quickly become an expensive passion, but have you ever stopped to wonder just how much you've actually spent? Steam has a hidden gem that could reveal all.
Nestled deep within the help section of Valve's popular gaming platform lies a page titled "External Funds Used." This elusive feature totals your entire expenditure on games, and while it's not new, it has remained under the radar for most users. Recently, Reddit users have shed light on how to uncover it (shoutout to PC Gamer!), but be warned, you may want to consider your curiosity carefully.
To discover your total spending, simply navigate to: help > steam support > my account > data related to your steam account > external funds used.
On this page, you'll find various categories detailing your financial history. The standout figure is "TotalSpend," while "OldSpend" tracks expenses made before April 2015. If your Steam account is linked to Perfect World for CS:GO or Dota 2, you'll also see "PWSpend," and for users from China, there's "ChinaSpend." It's a real eye-opener!
Though Steam is known for its jaw-dropping sales, which often contribute to a significant chunk of users' expenditures, the hidden spending report might surprise a few. Valve has also confirmed several sales events scheduled for 2025, including the anticipated Sokoban Fest from April 21 to April 28, followed by the Wargames Fest from April 28 to May 5. But the grand event that everyone awaits is the Summer Sale, set to dazzle from June 26 to July 10!
In other exciting Steam news, Valve's recent hardware and software survey revealed that Chinese-speaking gamers now make up an astounding half of the platform's user base! Plus, there’s a new safety feature designed to alert users about potentially abandoned early access games.
So, have you gathered the courage to check your total spend on Steam? What did you discover? You might be in for a shock!
