In a dramatic turn of events Thursday afternoon, Sooke Road was shut down in both directions following a serious multi-vehicle collision, as reported by the West Shore RCMP.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:36 p.m. near the 4000 block of Sooke Rd (Hwy 14) in Metchosin, prompting immediate emergency response.

Emergency Response and Traffic Control

Emergency crews swiftly arrived on the scene, with Metchosin Fire deploying three vehicles, including an engine and rescue apparatus, to assist with traffic management and patient care.

RCMP reported that Sooke Road would remain closed for several hours, with no initial estimate for reopening. Affected drivers were directed to use Kangaroo Rd as an alternative route.

Detours and Impact on Traffic

DriveBC confirmed that Highway 14 was impacted by a vehicle incident spanning between Kangaroo Rd and Happy Valley Rd for an extensive 8.7 km stretch. A detour was set up eastbound at Happy Valley Rd and westbound at Kangaroo Rd to alleviate traffic congestion.

Road Reopening and Casualties

In a positive update, Sooke Road reopened around 6:30 p.m., bringing relief to many commuters caught in the traffic snarl. BC Emergency Health Services revealed that paramedics responded to the scene at 4:33 p.m., treating three individuals for injuries, with one requiring further transportation.
