Authorities in York Region are on high alert as a man has been identified as a key suspect in a string of commercial break-ins that have plagued the area between February and March.
The York Regional Police (YRP) have issued a warrant for Habib Zahrabi Shotorban, a 42-year-old with a prior criminal history, who is believed to be behind several thefts targeting local businesses.
The investigation kicked off when officers responded to a break-in at a commercial establishment in Richmond Hill, near Commerce Valley Drive and Highway 7 West, on February 28. During this incident, police reported that various electronics were taken.
Following that, on March 5, another business in Markham, located near highways 7 and 404, experienced a similar theft.
As detectives delved into the cases, they uncovered links between the incidents, leading them to believe that Shotorban is responsible for at least eight other break-ins in the region.
This pattern of crime has raised concerns among local business owners, prompting increased police presence and community awareness initiatives.
Shotorban is facing serious charges, including eight counts of breach of probation, five counts of breaking and entering, and one count of disguise with intent—indicative of a calculated approach to his crimes.
Notably, he is currently on probation due to previous offenses involving commercial burglaries.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with information about Shotorban’s whereabouts to step forward and assist with the investigation.
If you spot him or have any leads, please reach out to the police or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
