When it comes to crime, this one is anything but gouda!
North Vancouver RCMP are on the hunt for a clever suspect who attempted to make off with an astronomical $13,000 worth of cheese. Yes, folks, you read that right—this is one dairy dilemma that has everyone talking!
The unusual incident transpired more than a month ago on September 29, around 4 p.m. Officers on patrol discovered a suspicious cart brimming with cheese lurking in an alley behind Whole Foods in Central Lonsdale. Dubbed as a 'cheesy' situation, the officers couldn't resist investigating further. Just as they approached, a shady character emerged from the Whole Foods stairwell and made a hasty exit, proving he was more than just a curd enthusiast!
Upon further investigation, authorities uncovered that the man had broken into the Whole Foods storage area, trying to pilfer the rich assortment of dairy delights, which staff estimated had a street value of $12,800. Unfortunately for him, the cheese was no longer sellable since it had been removed from the store’s refrigeration—talk about a real dairy disaster!
Constable Mansoor Sahak from the North Vancouver RCMP highlighted the importance of proactive policing in tackling such bizarre crimes. 'This is a classic example of how our officers use their skills to detect unusual activity,' he explained. 'Our strategy relies on intelligence-led policing, using data analyzed by our crime specialists to tackle emerging crime trends across North Vancouver.'
Despite their diligent work, police have yet to apprehend the suspected cheese bandit. However, they remain hopeful that with the public's help, justice can be served. 'This was a significant effort by our officers, but the case remains open. We're releasing CCTV footage of the suspect to see if anyone might recognize him,' Sahak noted.
