A Night of Dangers for Cyclists

A perilous evening unfolded for cyclists in Waterloo Region as two alarming accidents occurred within hours of each other, resulting in serious injuries and a swift response from emergency services.

First Collision: A Serious Encounter

The first crash struck around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Colby Drive and Wyman Road in Waterloo. Authorities reported that a Kia collided with a 32-year-old cyclist from Waterloo as he navigated the intersection. The impact was severe enough to require the cyclist to be rushed to a hospital outside the region for treatment.

Driver Escapes Unscathed

Fortunately, the 26-year-old driver of the Kia hailed from Kitchener and miraculously emerged from the scene uninjured.

Second Incident: E-Bike Enters Danger Zone

As night fell, the chaos escalated. At approximately 8 p.m., another collision occurred at University Avenue West and Fischer-Hallman Road in Kitchener. This time, the accident involved a cyclist on an e-bike and a Toyota Highlander.

Young Cyclist in Critical Condition

The 16-year-old cyclist, also from Kitchener, was sent to an out-of-region hospital for critical injuries, although specific details regarding his condition remain undisclosed. In a mirrored fate, the 47-year-old driver of the Toyota was unharmed.
