Sony is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the monumental 20th anniversary of the iconic God of War series, bringing fans a treasure trove of nostalgic goodies steeped in Norse mythology.

Dark Odyssey Skin

Among the most exciting announcements is the introduction of Kratos' jaw-dropping Dark Odyssey skin, a fan-favorite that harkens back to the challenging days of God of War II.

Originally, players had to conquer the game’s toughest difficulty—God Mode—to unlock this stylish skin in the 2007 sequel.

Fast forward to March 20, 2025, and it will now be accessible for anyone who owns God of War: Ragnarök, making it easier than ever to embrace Kratos' legendary persona with this shadowy black and gold look.

The update is completely free for players on both PlayStation and PC!

Exclusive Gear

Alongside the skin, players will also receive exclusive Dark Odyssey-themed armor, weapons, shields, and more for Kratos, Atreus, and Freya.

However, note that to fully enjoy these new weapon skins, you'll need to have your weapons maxed out—so be prepared to grind a bit if you're not already there.

On the upside, Santa Monica Studio is listening to fans and introducing options that allow players to customize the appearance of weapon attachments and shields, adding a unique flair to your battle gear.

Exclusive Merchandise

The celebration doesn’t stop at in-game rewards.

A wave of exciting merchandise is also on the horizon, including stunning art prints, a comprehensive two-volume retrospective book detailing the series' evolution since its inception in 2005, and a monumental 13-LP soundtrack collection featuring the best of Kratos' two-decade-long saga.

For the first time, fans will also be able to purchase double LP soundtracks for the Greek trilogy games—perfect for your vinyl collection!

Collectible Figurines

Additionally, collectors will want to check out the striking 67-inch Jörmungandr figurine, which uniquely features a magnetized tongue that can clutch a removable Leviathan Axe.

Unfortunately, there won’t be a companion Kratos plushie available, leading fans to speculate what fate might have befallen him in this alternate timeline.

Exhibit in Southern California

For those in Southern California, don’t miss the God of War exhibit at Gallery Nucleus in LA, showcasing fresh artwork inspired by the franchise as well as concept art and unique memorabilia.

This exhibit runs from March 15 to 23, making it a must-visit for dedicated fans.

Access for New Players

Lastly, if you or your friends are new to the franchise, there’s never been a better time to dive in.

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra members can access the last three installments of the series—God of War Ragnarök, God of War (2018), and God of War III Remastered—at no additional cost.

Plus, PC gamers can snag God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök at discounted prices on Steam—$20 and $48, respectively.

Get ready to celebrate this gaming milestone like never before—Kratos and the world of God of War are back, and this anniversary is packed with surprises for fans old and new!
