Inspired by Artemis: The 2026 Payload Challenge!

In line with NASA's Artemis missions, which aim to unlock the Moon's mysteries and prepare us for Mars, the 2026 payload challenge is set to push the boundaries of innovation. Teams will be tasked with designing a habitat that can safely accommodate four 'STEMnauts'—non-living representatives of astronauts. The habitat must also include essential equipment for collecting and analyzing soil samples to advance agricultural research.

Last year was a record breaker, with nearly 1,000 students from 71 teams across the U.S. participating in the 2025 Student Launch competition, launching rockets to impressive altitudes of 4,000 to 6,000 feet. From those humble beginnings in 2000 with just two teams, the challenge has grown significantly, providing a launchpad for countless students into careers with NASA.
