Biden and Harris Reunite in somber tribute after Election Loss

WASHINGTON – In a poignant display of unity, U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris came together on Monday for their first public appearance since Harris’s recent election defeat to former President Donald Trump. The duo participated in Veterans Day ceremonies, laying a wreath at the revered Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Following the wreath-laying, the pair proceeded to a ceremonial amphitheater where Biden delivered heartfelt remarks in honor of the sacrifices made by America’s military veterans. This event marked a significant moment as it was Biden's final address at the cemetery as commander-in-chief of the U.S. military.

“It’s been the greatest honor of my life, to lead you, to serve you, to care for you, to defend you, just as you defended us, generation after generation,” Biden expressed, emphasizing the esteemed role of the military. He recalled visits to military sites like Valley Forge and Gettysburg, highlighting America’s rich military history.

In a notable announcement, Biden revealed that the Department of Veterans Affairs is expanding the list of cancers recognized under the PACT Act, a critical piece of legislation intended to enhance healthcare access for veterans exposed to harmful conditions at toxic burn pits during their service. “Over 1 million veterans and families have benefited from this law,” he stated, underscoring his administration's commitment to supporting veterans.

Biden reiterated America’s “truly sacred obligation” to its armed forces, stressing the importance of caring for those who have served, especially those still missing in action or who have lost their lives in service. This deeply personal message resonated with many, as Biden reflected on his own family’s military ties—his son, Beau, served in the Delaware Army National Guard and tragically passed away from cancer in 2015.
