Benson Boone, the breakout star known for his hit song "Beautiful Things," has taken to TikTok to address the criticism he's been facing since skyrocketing to fame. After becoming one of the most streamed artists of 2024, Boone's success hasn't come without its detractors.

"If you hate me or my music, at least have a good reason for it!" the 22-year-old musician declared in his recent TikTok video. His frustration is directed at comments that lack substance, such as one that simply stated, "I don't even know why I hate Benson Boone, but it feels right." Boone challenged this vagueness, questioning how he can possibly improve from such feedback.

In a playful yet pointed manner, he suggested more constructive criticisms, saying, "At least say something valid like 'he just flips everywhere; can he do anything else?' Or simply admit, 'I don't like his songs, even though I'm judging based on the one I've heard a million times' — that's super valid!" He hilariously ended his video with the caption, "I'm literally giving you ideas."

Boone’s smash hit, "Beautiful Things," has dominated airwaves and social media platforms, staying in the top 10 charts in both the US and UK for well over a year. With over two billion streams globally, it emerged as the most popular single of 2024, surpassing tracks from famed artists like Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter.

Despite his monumental success, Boone has not escaped harsh reviews. Notably, Pitchfork's negative critique of his performance at Coachella bluntly described him as "horrible, just godawful," stating his set was filled with "nine absolutely insipid originals." The critic even questioned the merit of his appearance on such a prestigious stage at the festival.

The backlash wasn't just limited to music critics. Podcast host Nora Princiotti joined in, claiming to be a "Benson Boone hater" herself, expressing her disdain for his ubiquitous song "Beautiful Things" and saying it didn't deserve any accolades.

However, Boone remains undeterred. He has a busy summer ahead, lined up with several North American festivals and the upcoming release of his second album, "American Heart," set for June. Whether critics like it or not, Benson Boone is here to stay!
