Two Alarming Fires Connect in East York and Scarborough!
In a shocking turn of events, police have confirmed that a fire that erupted in East York last week is tied to another blaze at a Scarborough business that ignited early Tuesday morning. Is there a serial arsonist on the loose?
Details of the Disturbing Incidents
The first incident occurred on May 21, around 5:20 a.m., when officers were summoned to Pape and Fulton avenues following reports of arson. Eyewitnesses reported that three suspects broke into a building and deliberately set it ablaze with an accelerant before fleeing the scene. Miraculously, three individuals suffered only minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
The Investigative Breakthrough!
Upon further investigation, police discovered that the suspects arrived in a dark-colored SUV and used it as their getaway vehicle after executing their plan. The culprits were clad in dark clothing, including hooded jackets and gloves. One suspect stood out with a white stripe running down their pants, while another wore dark Converse shoes, distinguished by white laces. All suspects were seen wielding red jerry cans.
A Second Fire Erupts – More Questions Arise!
Just a week later, at 3:20 p.m., police were alerted to yet another fire at Birchmount Road and Vauxhall Drive. This time, a lone male suspect was dropped off by a dark SUV. Like the previous suspects, he donned dark attire and was spotted with a red jerry can.
After allegedly breaking in and starting another fire with an accelerant, he quickly fled the scene. Thankfully, this incident resulted in no injuries.
More Fires, More Suspicion?
Interestingly, police mentioned that two additional fires at Scarborough restaurants last week are currently under investigation for arson but do not appear to be connected to the recent incidents highlighted in Thursday's report.
