Fans of Destiny 2 are grappling with yet another change in the game’s episodic content structure, which seems to borrow elements from its seasonal model. Following widespread criticism regarding the pacing of the storytelling in Episode 1, Bungie has overhauled its approach. Players will now experience an all-or-nothing weekly format: all the story content for the Revenant Act has been crammed into the first week, leading to an extended period of inactivity—one week of excitement followed by roughly six weeks of silence.

This means that players logging in won't be greeted with new narrative developments each week. Instead, they can expect sporadic bursts of content. If you're wondering when Act 2 will actually kick off again after its lengthy hiatus, mark your calendars for November 19—next Tuesday’s weekly reset. However, this week there will be a livestream discussing what’s to come in Act 2, including speculations about the revamped Inverted Spire strike and a rumored activity similar to the classic Prison of Elders.

How well has this new model actually performed? Many players, myself included, feel it's a step back. While cutting out filler content might seem appealing initially, the consequence is a rush through the storyline that can be completed in just a couple of hours. The excitement of logging in each week quickly diminishes when there’s no progression to look forward to. The disjointed storytelling leaves players scratching their heads: has Fikrul resurrected the Fallen into Scorn? Honestly, details are getting lost in the shuffle.

To be fair, the previous three weeks on, three weeks off system wasn’t perfect either, but it certainly felt more balanced compared to the current structure. Ideally, many of us would prefer an uninterrupted run of 8-9 weeks of narrative content, followed by a lengthy gap filled with engaging seasonal events and loot.

Adding to the concern is the impending shift to a new “Frontiers” format, which will retire the episodic and seasonal formats altogether. This means that once we finish this Episode—possibly the last of its kind—we'll be looking at two small expansions per year alongside four 'Major Updates,' none of which have guaranteed story content. With so much uncertainty, players are left to wonder what the future holds for storytelling in Destiny 2.

So, while this new episodic model has sparked a variety of opinions, one thing is clear: whether you’re a fan or critic, the changes ahead could redefine the way we experience Destiny. Will this new format cater to a broader audience, or has Bungie lost touch with its community? Let's hope they listen before it’s too late!
