Behind the Lens: Gregg "Scooter" Korek's Journey
TORONTO — What began as a simple summer job nearly five decades ago has blossomed into a lifelong passion for Gregg "Scooter" Korek. Now the vice-president of client services at North American Midway Entertainment, Korek has turned his teenage job into a remarkable career spanning thousands of events across North America, including the iconic Canadian National Exhibition (CNE).
A Snapshot of the CNE's Spirit
Korek is now proudly showcasing a curated collection of his favorite snapshots from 35 years of CNE memories. His exhibit features breathtaking moments, like the stunning performance by the Flying Wallendas, capturing the essence of what makes the CNE a beloved end-of-summer event in Toronto.
From Childhood Dreams to Iconic Photography
Korek's affinity for photography ignited when his father gifted him a camera at the age of 11. "My camera has taken me to so many places; it taught me to be an explorer," he reflects, emphasizing the transformative power of photography in his life.
More Than Just Rides: A Culinary Legacy
His extensive experience at the CNE has also led him to understand the impact of signature foods on fair culture, such as the classic CNE ice cream waffle, which has set a precedent for fairs everywhere to create their own must-have treats to attract crowds.
Every Day is a New Adventure
For Korek, every day at work is filled with excitement. "I step out of my office and there are a million photos waiting to be captured," he shares, expressing the thrill of being surrounded by the vibrant energy of the midway. "Taking a bad photo of the midway is almost impossible." Thus, through his lens, Korek continues to immortalize the joy, thrill, and nostalgia that define the CNE.
