A 14-year-old boy has tragically died after being injured by a firework in Södertälje during New Year's Eve. According to the police, he was seriously injured, but his condition worsened, and he passed away on Saturday morning.

Daniel Wikdahl, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed the incident to SVT News. "Relatives of the boy have been informed of the tragic news," he said.

The prosecutor is now leading an investigation in which a man in his 30s has been detained, suspected of having fired the deadly firework. According to Dagens Nyheter, the man has already been arrested and remanded during the weekend, and he is now suspected of gross negligence causing another's death.

The detention hearings for the man took place on Sunday, and the court determined that there was a risk that the investigation would be affected if he were released. Prosecutor Jonas Bergendal has stated, "The investigation will now aim to clarify how the accident occurred," highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
