In a remarkable feat just a month after its deliveries began, the Xpeng G6 has surged to become one of the top three best-selling all-electric SUVs in Singapore. The news came directly from Xpeng, the ambitious Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, which officially entered the Singapore market in late July.

On July 25, Xpeng opened its first showroom at UOB Plaza, situated in the bustling central business district of Singapore, allowing eager customers to test drive the G6. By the last week of August, deliveries commenced, and the G6 quickly began matching Tesla’s monthly delivery numbers in Singapore—a testament to its warm reception from local consumers.

The G6, launched in China on June 29, 2023, has been positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y. While it starts at a competitive price of approximately RMB 199,900 (around $28,140) in China, the cost in Singapore has seen a significant mark-up due to ownership expenses. In Singapore, the G6 is available in two variants: the standard range starts at SGD 214,999 ($163,330), while the long-range version retails at SGD 228,999, both including the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) costs.

To further solidify its presence in the Singaporean market, Xpeng inaugurated a new showroom on November 2, located at 281 Alexandra Road. This expansive space spans over 800 square meters across two floors and hosted an engaging open house event from November 2 to 3, inviting prospective buyers to experience the G6 firsthand.

Looking ahead, James Wu, Xpeng's vice president, indicated that the G6 is merely the beginning of the company’s offerings in Singapore, promising the introduction of additional models in the near future.

In an impressive display of their growing market share, Xpeng reported a record-breaking delivery of 23,917 vehicles in October alone, marking a 19.57% year-over-year increase. Notably, the G6 has contributed significantly to this success, with 32,965 units delivered from January to September, including 5,918 units just in September.

Xpeng's foray into Singapore not only highlights a growing competition against established players like Tesla but also reflects the broader trend of increasing electric vehicle adoption in Southeast Asia. This market is expected to continue evolving rapidly as EV manufacturers vie for consumer attention in this burgeoning landscape.
