SINGAPORE: A Heartbreaking New Year’s Day Incident

In a heartbreaking tale of lost belongings, a woman’s New Year did not start as she hoped. Oriero Angelyn tragically misplaced her pink iPhone 16 Plus in the women's restroom at Paya Lebar Quarter on January 1, and now she’s calling for compassion from the individual who took it.

Desperate Measures

In a desperate post shared on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group on January 2, Oriero revealed that through the tracking app on her Apple Watch, she discovered that her missing phone had made its way across the border to Johor Bahru.

The incident occurred late at night while she was visiting the mall; after realizing her phone was missing just minutes later, she rushed back only to find that it had vanished. The mall was closing, and a crowd of shoppers was bustling around, making her search even more frantic. Despite seeking help from a cleaner at the restroom, she was met with disappointment, as no one had seen her device.

A Plea for Compassion

To her dismay, Oriero continued to track her phone's movements after it was taken. In her poignant message to the unknown individual, she expressed hope for empathy, saying, 'The New Year just started, I hope you will choose to be kind. I bought it with my hard-earned money, and I know you understand how it feels.'

Adding to her sorrow, she attempted to call the phone, but it was answered by silence once it had crossed into Johor Bahru.

Community Support

Many of her fellow Facebook group members urged her to report the theft to the police and to contact the mall's management about the incident. Others suggested traveling to JB and seeking assistance from local authorities to reclaim her stolen phone. However, Oriero has remarked that due to her work commitments, making the trip to Johor Bahru is not feasible.

Resilience and Hope

Fortunately, she activated the 'Lost' mode on her device, which prevents the finder from using the phone. Despite her frustrations, Oriero remains resolute and hopeful that the person who took her phone possesses some compassion and will return it.

A Call for Kindness in the New Year

This incident brings to light the broader issue of kindness in our communities. As we begin a new year, let’s remember the importance of empathy and integrity in all our interactions.
