After years of relying on Microsoft’s Outlook app, I decided it was time for a change. Searching for an alternative, I stumbled upon Proton, a suite of privacy-focused applications that I began exploring last year. I started with the free versions and was immediately drawn to its exceptional Mail and Calendar services, along with Proton Drive, Docs, Pass, and VPN.

What sold me on Proton was its commitment to encryption and security. With growing concerns about data privacy, especially against the backdrop of AI data training, I craved a straightforward alternative that wouldn’t drown me in excessive features.

I took the plunge and imported my email, contacts, and calendar into Proton—and I couldn’t be happier with my decision! Proton’s Easy Switch tool made the migration a breeze, allowing me to sync everything across devices in just a few clicks. Now, the only time I open Outlook is when I’m on a device without Proton.

Proton Mail’s stellar reputation for security was a major factor in my choice. I wanted to avoid exposing my data to Microsoft and advertisers. I prefer using the browser for my Mail and Calendar, keeping them open in a pinned tab for easy access.

Migrating my calendar from Outlook to Proton was an absolute cakewalk. Thanks to Proton Mail and Calendar’s integration, the Easy Switch tool guided me through the import wizard, and within 15 minutes, I received a notification that everything was complete. I found every single item intact—no missing emails, contacts, or calendar entries!

Simplicity Over Clutter

Unlike Outlook, which can feel cluttered with unnecessary features, Proton's clean interface allows me to focus on what matters. Whether on my computer or phone, it’s refreshing to have a simple layout that prioritizes usability without distractions. While I occasionally miss certain mobile functionalities from Outlook—like quickly scheduling appointments with a long press—having Outlook available on my phone for emergencies makes it manageable.
