Chaos Strikes WhatsApp Users!

SINGAPORE – WhatsApp users in Singapore and across the globe experienced a messaging nightmare on the evening of April 12. Reports of issues began flooding in, triggering a wave of frustration among users.

Record Number of Outage Reports!

By 10:50 PM, a staggering peak of 1,964 outage reports had been logged on Downdetector Singapore, a site that monitors app stability through user feedback. Earlier in the evening, reports surged to 398 at 7:50 PM.

Regional Ripple Effects!

But Singapore wasn’t alone in this troubling trend. Neighbors Indonesia and Malaysia also faced their share of issues—1,743 outage reports hit Indonesia while Malaysia saw 944 at similar times. On a broader scale, over 3,291 disruptions were logged on the main Downdetector site around 10:52 PM.

Google Sees 'WhatsApp Down' Trend!

Google Trends reflected the chaos, with the term "WhatsApp down" skyrocketing in searches from 7:52 PM in Singapore and peaking again from 10 PM to nearly 11 PM as panic spread.

India Also in the Dark!

Reports from India confirmed that users there were similarly unable to send messages or update their statuses, exacerbating the global outrage.

Voices from the Web!

Singapore blogger Lee Kin Mun, known as mrbrown, humorously noted on Facebook, "I think WhatsApp is down. We will have to send our good night posts tomorrow." Meanwhile, users from countries like India, Indonesia, and Vietnam took to social media platform X to voice their frustrations, sharing screenshots of messages stuck with exclamation marks indicating undelivered status.

A Troubling Trend for Meta!

This incident isn’t isolated; only last month, other Meta-owned platforms, Facebook and Instagram, faced significant outages for two hours, leaving users locked out of their accounts. According to a Facebook spokesperson, the previous disruptions were due to an unintended command during routine maintenance that affected the platform's backbone network.
