No Room for More: 3-Player Co-Op Stays Firm
In a bold announcement, Saber Interactive, the masterminds behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, have declared that the game's co-op limit will remain stuck at three players. This comes despite the impressive feat achieved by modders who recently showcased a 12-player co-op mode.
Why Only Three?
Fans had their hopes high for an upgrade to the horde mode known as Siege, expecting the player cap to rise. However, Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits unveiled the reasoning: increasing the player count to four would significantly lessen the challenge, rendering PvE missions far too easy. “Scaling enemy assaults to suit a fourth player creates an imbalance that we want to avoid,” Willits explained.
Modders Defy Expectations with 12-Player Co-Op
Earlier this month, a talented modder known as Tom, behind the stunning Astartes Overhaul, managed to break free from the co-op limitation by producing a 12-player mode. The gameplay footage features intense battles against formidable foes like the Tyranid Trygon Prime, delivering thrilling MMO-style encounters that many thought would be impossible.
Saber’s Support for the Modding Community
Tom expressed his gratitude towards Saber Interactive, admitting, “We never dreamed that 12-player PvE sessions would be viable this quickly. Thanks to their trust and support, we’ve taken a giant leap forward.” This collaboration between modders and the developer has ignited excitement across the player community.
What Lies Ahead for Siege Mode?
While 12-player co-op may throw off the game’s balance, “The Siege” mode still appears to be the playground for modders. Tom hinted at the development of new game modes, including prop hunt, PvP operations, and raid-style missions featuring challenging bosses that require true teamwork to defeat.
Exciting New Developments on the Horizon
Mark your calendars—Siege mode is set to launch as part of Patch 8 on June 26. Alongside it, two new DLCs will arrive for Ultra Edition, Gold Edition, and Season Pass holders. Expect to see new Chapter Packs that enrich the game with cosmetics and skins inspired by the legendary White Scars and Blood Angels.
More Surprises in Store!
Recent datamines have hinted at even more thrilling content coming to Space Marine 2, including a new class and various weapons. Meanwhile, excitement brews as development of Space Marine 3 has already commenced, promising players a continuous barrage of action and adventure in the Warhammer universe.
What’s Next?
The anticipation surrounding Space Marine 2 is palpable, especially with its first-year roadmap remaining intact. Fans are eager to see how the game will evolve and respond to the community's enthusiasm and creativity.
