In a recent statement, Digital Extremes has revealed that the lack of a Warframe port for the Nintendo Switch 2 is primarily due to a significant backlog of development kits. The buzz around this beloved space ninja game continues to grow as fans eagerly await its arrival on the new console.
During a press Q&A leading up to TennoCon 2025, CEO Steve Sinclair shed light on the situation, expressing the team’s enthusiasm for harnessing the advanced capabilities of the Switch 2. He mentioned, "Our tech team is so excited to take advantage of the high-speed cores and the other really cool features of it. However, we haven’t even started development because of the backlog for dev kits. If anyone has a connection, just one dev kit would change everything."
Sinclair further affirmed that once they obtain a dev kit, the team intends to deliver a custom build specifically for Warframe, highlighting the exciting potential enhancements they could implement, such as drastically improved load times.
Switch 2: A New Frontier for Gaming
Launched on June 5, 2025, the Switch 2 has made waves with features like Joy-Con mouse functionality, upgraded graphics, and advanced social features. Despite a promising launch lineup that includes major titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, early adopters are eager for additional games to enrich their gaming experience.
However, Digital Extremes isn't the only developer facing obstacles. Numerous indie studios, like the creators of Into the Restless Ruins and Citizen Sleeper 2, have also reported difficulties in accessing development kits, further stalling their projects.
Industry insiders indicate that many potential titles remain in limbo, leaving developers frustrated as they wait for the necessary tools to start their work. With the game community yearning for fresh content on the Switch 2, the pressure is mounting.
Until Digital Extremes and other developers can secure the dev kits they need, fans will have to remain patient and watch closely for updates from TennoCon 2025 and beyond.
