Singapore's Crackdown on Voucher Resale

In a bold move, Singapore's Community Development Councils (CDCs) are teaming up with major e-commerce platforms like Carousell and Facebook Marketplace to eliminate unauthorized listings of community development vouchers and SG60 vouchers. This announcement, made on August 7, follows public inquiries regarding the resale of these vouchers.

No Reselling Allowed!

A spokesperson for the CDC emphasized, "The vouchers are not for resale and are not exchangeable for cash," driving home the message that violating these terms is unacceptable. A recent check revealed multiple listings attempting to cash in on these vouchers, with some sellers asking up to $600 for a package worth only $800.

The Vouchers Explained

Issued in July, the SG60 vouchers provided a generous $800 for seniors aged 60 and above, while those aged 21 to 59 received $600. Valid until December 31, 2026, these vouchers can be used at over 23,000 hawker stalls, heartland businesses, and major supermarket chains across Singapore.

Latest Developments and Reminders

In May 2025, another round of CDC vouchers was released, granting $500 to each household, with an additional $300 set to be distributed in January 2026. Notably, the vouchers come with strict regulations stating they ‘cannot be resold or exchanged for cash or gift vouchers.’

Proceed with Caution!

While sharing of vouchers within households is permitted, CDCs strongly advise caution. They warn that any shared unique voucher links can lead to permanent loss if misused, as no reinstatement will be possible. Earlier this year, in January 2024, police reports were filed against unauthorized links claiming to facilitate voucher redemption, highlighting the ongoing struggle against fraud.
