Vivo Launches Its First Mixed Reality Headset

In a bold move to challenge the tech giants, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo has officially unveiled its first mixed reality headset, the Vivo Vision. This new device is taking aim at Apple’s Vision Pro, aligning closely in both aesthetic and functionality.

A Market Still in Its Infancy

However, the mixed reality market is far from saturated. Apple’s Vision Pro, which carries a hefty price tag of $3,500, has only managed to reach sales of under one million units in 2023, according to the market research firm International Data Corp. Overall, the global mixed reality market is projected to barely exceed 10 million units this year.

Vivo's Vision Extends Beyond Headsets

Vivo’s ambitions extend far beyond just selling headsets. Executive Vice-President Hu Baishan conveyed a visionary perspective, stating that mixed reality could play a pivotal role in the future of robotics. He envisions a day when mixed reality becomes an integral interactive device for home robots, acting as the "eyes and brain" of intelligent machines.

A Five-Year Vision for Innovation

Hu highlighted that Vivo has dedicated five years to the development of this cutting-edge technology. Earlier this year, Vivo announced the formation of the Vivo Robotics Lab, focusing on pioneering advancements in robotics. The lab aims to create intelligent decision-making systems and advanced spatial perception capabilities for future robotic applications.

What’s Next for Vivo?

As Vivo steps into the mixed reality landscape, the tech world is watching closely. With a clear vision for the integration of robotics and mixed reality, the company could soon reshape the future of interactive technology.
