A Historic Release Ahead of Independence Day!

In a bold move ahead of its National Day, Vietnam announced an astonishing release of nearly 14,000 prisoners, setting a new record for the most detainees freed in a single year!

This generous act comes as the country prepares to celebrate 80 years of independence from French colonial rule on September 2. Authorities are once again embracing the tradition of granting amnesties before significant national events.

Who Will Be Released?

Starting September 1, precisely 13,915 prisoners will walk free, including 66 foreigners hailing from 18 different nations such as China, South Korea, the United States, and Australia.

Deputy Minister of Public Security, Le Van Tuyen, emphasized the magnitude of this release, highlighting that it is the largest group of prisoners ever to be pardoned in one year.

Conditions for Release!

However, not everyone is eligible for freedom. Those convicted of serious offenses, such as attempting to overthrow the government or engaging in terrorism, will remain behind bars as per Vietnamese law.

A Long-standing Tradition of Amnesty!

Since 2009, Vietnam has released around 100,000 prisoners before their sentences were completed, although political prisoners have consistently been excluded from these amnesties.

Currently, there are over 190,000 individuals serving time across the nation. This year's mass release not only reflects Vietnam's approach to justice but also showcases its commitment to fostering a spirit of reunion and celebration among its citizens.

Join the Celebration!

As Vietnam gears up for its grand independence parade in Hanoi, the release of these prisoners is sure to be a focal point of the celebrations, bringing hope and a new beginning for many.
