New Rules Coming Soon!

Starting September 1, Singapore is ramping up its fight against vaping, and foreign visitors need to pay attention! Anyone caught using e-vaporisers could have their passes revoked, face deportation, and be banned from returning to the country.

Strict Penalties for Offenders

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Home Affairs have announced that confiscation and fines await those caught with vapes. First-time offenders could end up paying hefty fines, while repeat offenders will face severe punishment.

Short-Term Visit Pass holders will be banned from re-entering Singapore upon a second offense. For long-term pass holders—think Employment Pass, S Pass, or Student's Pass—a third violation could mean losing their pass and being deported.

Crackdown on Illegal Substances!

Authorities are also targeting those caught with illegal etomidate vapes or Kpods. Testing positive for these substances will lead to the same harsh consequences: pass revocation and bans on re-entry.

Practical Measures for Travelers

Travelers passing through Changi Airport should expect new announcements and designated vape disposal bins. Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam emphasized the seriousness of the situation: 'Drugs are very serious. Chewing gum is not allowed. And vapes, please dump them!'

Increased Law Enforcement

Over the past week, Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority has heightened enforcement checks, uncovering 184 vape-related cases and seizing over 850 vapes at various checkpoints. One individual even attempted to smuggle in over 890 vapes and thousands of components!

Support for Migrant Workers

In a further crackdown, nearly 700 officers from the Ministry of Manpower will be collaborating with the Health Sciences Authority to enforce these regulations. Education and engagement efforts geared towards migrant workers will also be intensified.

Employers and dormitory operators will play a role in promoting awareness about the legal risks of vaping.

Final Thoughts

In a city known for its strict laws, the message is crystal clear: abide by Singapore’s regulations or face the consequences. With vaping becoming a significant issue, foreign visitors and residents alike must be aware of the repercussions of disregarding these stringent new policies.
