In a startling announcement, Anker has initiated a recall for several of its MagGo battery models, including the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K, Model A1642), Anker Power Bank (Model A1647), and Anker MagGo Power Bank (Model A1652). This decision comes after the discovery of a manufacturing defect that can lead to overheating of the power banks’ lithium-ion batteries, posing a serious fire risk to consumers.

Previous Recalls

This issue mirrors a previous recall from June affecting another Anker power bank. Although the company claims that only a small number of units are impacted, they are opting for precautionary measures and recalling all units of these specific models.

Identifying Affected Devices

To identify whether your device is affected, look for the names and model numbers — A1642, A1647, and A1652 — clearly marked on the bottom or back of the power banks. If you own one of these models, Anker urges you to cease use immediately, store it in a secure place away from flammable materials, and check the product's serial number, which is located near the model number.

Replacement and Disposal Process

For those with affected devices, Anker has provided a straightforward process to obtain a replacement. However, do not dispose of these power banks in regular trash, as lithium-ion batteries can be highly volatile. Instead, Anker suggests taking them to designated disposal facilities. In the United States, users can locate suitable recycling centers through the Environmental Protection Agency's website or other certified e-waste management organizations.
