This follows reports of an international traveler from North Carolina who might have infected others. Chronic Wasting Disease Spreads in Maryland!

In a different but equally troubling health matter, a recent survey revealed that chronic wasting disease (CWD) has been detected in 62 white-tailed deer across Maryland, raising alarms among wildlife officials. Karina Stonesifer, Director of the Wildlife and Heritage Service, emphasized the growing threat, stating, "CWD continues to spread nationally, regionally, and within the state of Maryland. We must monitor it closely to manage the impact on our deer population and keep the public informed."

CWD affects various cervids, including deer, elk, and moose, spreading through both direct contact and environmental contamination. Although no human cases have ever been reported, health officials caution against consuming meat from infected animals.
