Ten Bird Flu Cases Confirmed in Cambodia in 2025

Cambodia is facing a rising threat from H5N1 avian influenza, with ten cases reported already this year, including a recent alarming cluster involving a mother and son from Siem Reap province.

Recent Developments: New Cases Emerge

On June 29, the Ministry of Health disclosed that two new infections of avian influenza had been confirmed near the home of a 41-year-old woman who tested positive earlier this month. This latest alarming development highlights the ongoing risk the virus poses.

Investigation Uncovers More Infections

In response to the outbreak, health officials launched an intensive investigation in Lbeuk village, Puok district. This investigation led to the identification of two additional cases: a 46-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son, both confirmed carriers of the virus.

Close Link to Sick Poultry

Both of these new patients live a mere 20 meters away from the initial infected woman. It has been reported that all three had been in direct contact with sick or deceased poultry, which they had prepared and consumed days before their symptoms appeared.

Health Authorities on High Alert

To curb this outbreak, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with provincial agriculture officials, is actively investigating and implementing strict response protocols. This includes identifying potential sources of infection, managing close contacts, and disseminating Tamiflu to those who may be at risk.
