On April 3, 2025, a significant milestone was reached as Northrop Grumman received the HALO, short for Habitation and Logistics Outpost, marking a pivotal contribution to NASA's ambitious Gateway lunar orbit platform. This state-of-the-art module is set to undergo final tests before it sails to Florida for its historic launch.

What is HALO? Your Key to Lunar Exploration!

As a cornerstone of NASA's Artemis program, the Gateway will function as a miniature space station orbiting the moon. The HALO module will be a home for astronauts, providing them with the essential resources and research facilities needed to explore the lunar surface and beyond. With its advanced systems, HALO will handle command, control, data management, energy storage, and powerful communications, courtesy of Thales Alenia Space.

A Futuristic Haven for Astronauts!

Equipped with three docking ports, HALO is designed for multiple visiting spacecraft and future expansions. It can accommodate up to four Artemis astronauts for extended missions, allowing them to explore the moon's South Pole and return safely—all while living in a state-of-the-art facility.

From Italy to Arizona: HALO's Journey!

Currently residing at Northrop Grumman's facility in Gilbert, Arizona, HALO arrived from Turin, Italy, where it was expertly crafted. It is now undergoing final outfitting before being transported to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, ready to be integrated with the Power and Propulsion Element before its groundbreaking launch.
