Say Goodbye to Library Fines!

Great news for book lovers in Singapore! The National Library Board (NLB) is rolling out an exciting one-time initiative that allows you to waive all your outstanding library fines until December 31. This is the first time such a generous offer has been made, aimed at encouraging everyone to dive into the wealth of services available.

A Gift of Free Delivery Services!

But that’s not all! The NLB is also treating patrons to one complimentary book delivery until the end of 2025. Typically priced at $8.72, this free service is available for 300 lucky patrons each week, making it easier than ever to have books delivered right to your door.

How to Benefit from the Fine Waiver!

To seize this opportunity, just borrow any physical or digital item from the NLB by December 31, and your fines will vanish! This applies to fines accrued prior to September 6. If you’re returning overdue items, make sure to do so by September 14 and borrow at least one item by the end of the year to qualify for the fine waiver.

Unveiling the Numbers Behind the Fines!

Curious about how many patrons are affected by this initiative? While the NLB hasn’t released specific figures, they promise to share insights on the total fines waived once the initiative wraps up.

Catch the Wave of Change!

At the heart of these initiatives is a belief in equitable access to reading, learning, and discovery. As Minister of Digital Development and Information, Josephine Teo, eloquently stated, libraries are vital symbols of progress that must evolve with the times.

A Thriving Reading Community!

A recent survey revealed that nearly half of those aged 15 to 34 in Singapore consume news online, showcasing the digital shift in our reading habits. Yet, the NLB thrives, with over 20 million visitors and 39 million loans last year. It’s clear that Singaporeans remain passionate about reading!

Libraries as Community Hubs!

As NLB marks its 30th anniversary, the focus is on how libraries can engage the community and spark curiosity. It’s about more than just storing books; it’s about fostering connections and encouraging discovery. Events led by volunteers, like dance sessions and discussions on Singapore literature, exemplify this community spirit.

Inclusive Initiatives on the Horizon!

NLB is also committed to inclusivity, aiming to introduce accessible programs and technologies in all libraries to serve every individual within the community.

Celebrate 30 Years of Stories!

At the anniversary event, a multitude of patrons, volunteers, and staff gathered to celebrate the rich history of the NLB, which was livestreamed to various library branches. Exciting new commemorative items, games, and publications were launched to mark this milestone.

The Future of Libraries!

NLB’s CEO, Mr. Ng Cher Pong, emphasized that through innovative practices and partnerships, they are ready to chart the next chapter in Singapore’s journey of discovery. So, don’t miss out on these amazing opportunities!
