SINGAPORE: Mark your calendars! Starting Tuesday, January 14, eligible lower-income households can apply for public transport vouchers (PTV) valued at S$60 (approximately US$44). This exciting initiative represents an increase from last year’s S$50 vouchers, with plans to benefit a larger number of households.

The eligibility criteria have been expanded, allowing households with a monthly income of up to S$1,800 per person—up from the previous threshold of S$1,600—to apply. This change is a significant step forward, as announced in September 2024, potentially benefiting an additional 60,000 households amidst a recent fare hike of 10 cents for adults using public transport.

This year's PTV distribution will occur in two phases, as confirmed by the Ministry of Transport and the People’s Association. The first phase wrapped up in December 2024, where about 270,000 households that had received vouchers previously and still qualify were notified via letters.

Now, as we enter the crucial second phase running from January 14 until October 31, eligible households that missed the first round can take action! They can apply for their transport vouchers online or visit local community centers and clubs (CCs) for assistance.

For households needing further support, particularly those who may not meet the income criteria, there is an option to appeal. Appeals can be submitted both online or in person at community centers, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Recipients of the PTV notification letter can easily claim their vouchers using the SimplyGo app, or at various kiosks and service centers, offering convenience for all. The vouchers are valid until March 31, 2026, providing ample time to benefit from this subsidy.

Fare Increase Details

Additionally, it’s crucial to address the recent fare adjustments in public transport. The Public Transport Council (PTC) announced a fare increase, citing core inflation and wage growth as the driving forces behind the decision. Adult fares have been raised by 10 cents, while concessionary fares for students, seniors, and individuals with disabilities saw a 4-cent jump.

Despite these increases, the overall fare hike for 2024 is pegged at 6%, which is less than the previous year’s rise of 7%. This strategic increase is a measured approach aimed at mitigating the impact on commuters as the cost of living continues to be a challenge for many in Singapore.

If you have any queries regarding the application process or need assistance with your vouchers, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local community centers. Act fast to secure your public transport vouchers and navigate Singapore’s public transport system with ease!
