PSV Eindhoven appears to be losing faith in Tyrell Malacia after securing the Manchester United left-back on loan earlier this year. The Dutch football club brought Malacia to their squad on February 4 with an option to buy, but it seems the deal isn’t panning out as hoped.

Malacia, who previously lit up the pitch for Feyenoord before making a £14.7 million move to United in 2022, faced hurdles in adapting back home. Although initially in demand by clubs like Benfica, he returned to PSV without a solid deal and has since struggled for game time.

During his loan spell, Malacia has started just three matches, with Brazilian left-back Mauro Junior earning the trust of the coaching staff instead. In total, he has only made 10 appearances and shockingly hasn’t contributed any goals or assists for one of the top-attacking teams in the league.

Recent reports from the Netherlands indicate that PSV is unlikely to exercise their option to buy Malacia. According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the full-back's lackluster performances mean he will probably head back to Manchester when his loan runs out at the end of the season.

While other United loanees like Antony and Marcus Rashford are making waves in their temporary stints, Malacia’s situation is looking grim. Rashford has returned to Champions League football amid uncertainties about his future, particularly with Aston Villa eyeing a £40 million signing.

PSV’s pursuit of a strong left-back has also muddled Malacia's opportunities, with neither side achieving their goals during the loan deal. Former PSV players and managers have criticized the move, with one legend, Rene Van de Kerkhof, advising Malacia to return to Manchester, while Aad de Mos labeled him a ‘bad buy.’

With PSV seemingly ready to send Malacia back and no guaranteed future at United, his prospects look bleak. Unless a club takes a risk on the Netherlands international, United's plans for a summer clear-out might face further challenges.

As it stands, Manchester United is eager to avoid additional complications with their other loanees as they prepare for the upcoming transfer window.
