In a startling turn of events at Woodlands Checkpoint, two men were discovered crammed into the boot of a Malaysian car as they attempted to flee Singapore illegally. This shocking incident unfolded around 3 AM on a Saturday morning, resulting in immediate arrests by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

The men, aged 30 and 31, were found without any travel documents, raising serious concerns about border security. The car was driven by a 20-year-old, all of them citizens of Malaysia, who now face legal repercussions for their actions.

In a stern warning, the ICA made it clear that illegal attempts to cross Singapore's borders will not be tolerated. Offenders may face hefty fines of up to S$2,000 (approximately US$1,600) and prison sentences of up to six months. The situation becomes even graver for those found guilty of aiding illegal departures, with penalties ranging from two to five years behind bars, alongside corporal punishment.

Furthermore, the ICA highlighted that vehicles used in such illegal activities are subject to seizure, underscoring their commitment to safeguarding Singapore's borders.

Senior Assistant Commissioner Maran Subrahmaniyan, commander of Woodlands Checkpoint, commended the vigilance of ICA officers in this operation. He stated, "This detection showcases our unwavering dedication to protecting Singapore against illicit immigration and smuggling, including drugs and weapons." The ICA remains resolute in enforcing rigorous security checks to uphold the safety and integrity of Singapore's borders.
