In a heartbreaking turn of events, family and friends are mourning the loss of 25-year-old Mr. B. Aravind Pillay, who was fatally stabbed in central Brussels on November 7, 2023, precisely one year after he set off to pursue his dreams of completing a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering in Belgium.

The beloved young man was attacked while out with two fellow students. According to Belgian authorities, an argument erupted when Mr. Aravind encountered two 18-year-old suspects, leading to the tragic incident. Authorities have subsequently detained the suspects as investigations continue.

Mr. Aravind's body was repatriated to Singapore, where a wake was held at his family home from November 10, followed by cremation the next day, at 6 PM. The ceremony drew an overwhelming number of attendees, including friends from his former schools—St Andrew’s Secondary School and Nanyang Polytechnic—where he earned a diploma in electronics, computer, and communications engineering.

Mourning his loss, former schoolmate Mohammed Afraaz, 25, reflected on their friendship, emphasizing how Mr. Aravind had always been a supportive figure in his life. Afraaz noted with sadness that just two days before the incident, he contemplated inviting Mr. Aravind to his boxing match—a reminder of the future moments that will never be.

Aashiq Ahmad, another former classmate, spoke fondly about Mr. Aravind's warmth and ability to connect easily with others, regardless of time apart. Jeremy Tabensky, a former head captain at St Andrew's, described him as a pillar of dependability, embodying the school spirit and brotherhood that the institution upheld.

Nanyang Polytechnic classmates reminisced about Mr. Aravind's selflessness and unwavering positivity. One coursemate, who identified only as Ernest, called him a "brother," while others expressed that he brought joy wherever he went, uplifting those around him with his infectious energy.

Reflecting on Mr. Aravind's kindness, a cousin compared him to Karna, a hero from Hindu mythology known for his generosity and loyalty. His aunt, visibly emotional, remembered the warmth he shared with family, describing how he would always check in on them.
