Devastating Fatality on the CTE

In a heartbreaking incident that shook Singapore, a 71-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a tragic accident involving a taxi on the Central Expressway (CTE) early on April 29.

Taxi Driver Arrested for Careless Driving

Authorities have reported that a 67-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for causing death due to careless driving. This unfortunate collision occurred on a north-bound stretch of the CTE and has raised serious concerns about road safety.

Eyewitness Accounts and Immediate Aftermath

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the accident at around 4:15 AM. Tragically, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Eyewitness video footage captured the scene shortly after the incident, revealing a shocking sight: a blue tent on the left lane and the taxi positioned approximately 25 meters ahead, with the motorcycle lodged beneath its front bumper.

Rising Concerns Over Motorcycle Safety

This incident is part of an alarming trend. Recent traffic police statistics indicate that fatalities among motorcyclists and their passengers have surged, recording 85 deaths in 2024 alone, compared to 68 in 2023. Though motorcycles represent only 14.7% of all vehicles in Singapore, they account for over half of all traffic-related fatalities.
