Port Klang Capsize: A Heart-Wrenching Saga

In a shocking turn of events off the coast of Port Klang, Selangor, the bodies of a couple missing since a boat capsized were discovered on Sunday morning, just as the solo survivor recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the disaster.

Seventeen-year-old Alvin Chang Yan Qin, the lone survivor of the tragic incident, described how rapidly the accident unfolded. "The incident happened very fast," he told reporters a day after his rescue.

Rescue Operations Reveal Grim Reality

Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq Sazali from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) confirmed that the couple’s bodies were located about 200 meters apart at around 7:45 AM during search and rescue operations. They were identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and Carren Man, 29, parents to three-year-old Darren, who was tragically found deceased alongside family friends in the boat's front compartment.

The group had reportedly been conducting a test drive on a recently repaired vessel when disaster struck just a half-mile from Tanjung Harapan.

Survivor's Gripping Account

Alvin recounted that the boat capsized shortly after making a turn, explaining, "The boat overturned so quickly that within less than ten seconds, water flooded every compartment." He managed to cling to the overturned hull, but the chaos left him desperately screaming for help when he realized he was alone.

It wasn't until fishermen spotted him struggling that he was rescued and authorities were alerted.

Investigations Underway as Safety Concerns Arise

Early investigations indicate that the boat had lost control before capsizing. The maritime director, Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, noted that the victims were likely not wearing life jackets, complicating rescue efforts. Initial findings suggest that the boat, owned by Cheu Son Hin, had been operating without issues during its first test run.

A woman who claimed to be Cheu’s widow asserted that there were no prior problems with the boat before its second test drive led to this horrific conclusion.

Closure Comes with Heartbreak

The search-and-rescue mission was officially called off after the couple’s bodies were recovered, putting a tragic end to a heartbreaking chapter for the grieving families. As the community mourns the loss and grapples with the tragedy, questions linger around the events that led to this devastating incident.

This harrowing incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks involved in maritime activities, prompting urgent discussions about safety regulations and practices.
